Yesterday I was able to watch the Utah Emergency Communications Conference virtually. There were a lot of really excellent speakers and information. The most relevant section to this group was a presentation by UCA about the Utah Trunking system and the upcoming P25 rollout. The youtube below is set to start at that section:

One of the most interesting to me was this particular slide from the presentation:

looks like we will be having a lot of fun tracking down all the new TG setups.

I thought it was interesting about how the channels are looking to be lined out. We will see what actually happens but it will be a bit different from what we have today. Not sure how PD units will like it. They are very accustomed to CH1 being Dispatch, CH2 being Service, and Channel 3 being C2C ( or a similar configuration).

The proposed map would be quite a bit different and infers a common programming across agencies. This is better for interoperability as you can grab any radio and CH5 is the same.

It will be interesting for sure.

And the current sites that are online are currently transmitting at p25 phase 1, that answers the question about them going phase 2

just because it’s in test state as a phase 1 control channel doesn’t mean the system won’t have phase 2 on it. I am willing to bet this will be a hybrid system from the onset with a hard set Phase 2 cutover date if phase 2 doesn’t roll out of the gate.

They will switch from phase 1 to phase 2, they will end phase 1 once they have all the radios including the flashed ones ready
