Looks like UCAN will be the "poster child" of rebanding. The first major 800Mhz trunked system to come to agreement with Nextel on this. Motorola apparently has the software ready to go and I think it will start to happen this summer. I'm concerned that the process will be anything but easy. There will probably be a period of trial and error as the bugs are worked out. I don't think the scanner makers are going to jump to upgrade their software until Motorola comes out with a solid system. We could go months with no firmware upgrades to existing trunktrackers (at least those that can be flashed) or new radios that will handle the changes. Since we live in a relatively small market, sales wise, we might be "scannerless" for months, if not longer. I hope I'm wrong.

I anticipate that using trunker with a custom bandplan will work just fine. (plan=0, manually edit 7202C*.txt files). This method works just fine for me on the HAFB system.

The current 800 plan starts with 851.0125 as FCC channel 1, and continues up in 25 kHz increments. The new plan will undoubtedly use 12.5 kHz increments, to double the number of usable channels.
