While I think the UCAN system is great it does present one problem. I can not program all of the known TGID's in to one system, my BC246T only allows 200 channels per system.

I have split the greater Wasatch front in to cities and counties and made a system for each. Since they all use the same frequencies I can not set either system to ID Search since I will get the TGID's popping up from the other.

Of course I could always purchase another scanner but I don't see that as a real option. Have any of you worked out a way to search for new ID's? I realize there are a few ways I could go about this just would like some input from everyone.

Thanks in advance.

For large systems I add the same site several times however one is dedicated to law enforcement and the other for fire/medics.

For example instead of having a bank called UCAN-SLC with all your ID's, I would program UCAN-SLC-Police and UCAN-SLC-Fire so you can have 200 ID for police and 200 ID for fire. Assign them the same quickkey and they can both scan at the same time.

Thats the only way I know with Uniden scanners.

I currently have UCAN broken into 3 banks. One is PD, One for VECC Fire, One for emergency (code one, regional, air, etc..)

I actually have been thing of reorganizing by areas. I would do a bank of closest to where I live (WVC, SSL, T-Ville, and VECC Fire 4) Then a bank or two working my way further out. I most likely will end up with some type of hybrid of both.

Yea this is also an issue for me with my BR330T... and I am still trying to figure out what I want to do.

Currently I have one bank that is UCAN-SLC and has only the SLC UCAN site programed and only the Talk Groups of the areas I frequent.

In another bank I have UCAN-ALL which has all UCAN frequencies programed and some of the major Talk Groups. I use this for "roaming" when I travel to a new area and can usually pick up the control channel. However the majority of the time I am just seeing the Talk Group ID as it is not programed into the scanner. I keep a print out with me so I can reference it but this is not ideal.

I have thought about location based banks but the Salt Lake Valley has more than 200 Talk Groups, so it would really need to be split into agency & functional banks (Police, Fire, Support, etc).

How True

That is my dilemma as well.

I am driving across 3 counties everyday to and from work. (Tooele, Salt Lake, Utah) I get eveything from the Wendover station of Tooele County Sherriff's Office, Weber County Dispatch, to Payson with all the UHP and fire/EMS. While enjoyable at times it would be nice to isolate them somehow. (Never fails I get Davis Dispatch when southbound on the I-215 west belt!) The GPS enabled scanner would be nice but not sure I can get funding approved through the "appropriations committee". I don't think she sees things the way I do sometimes. :)

I guess the logical option is to make several banks and lockout while I am driving. Still have to stick with ID Scan vs. ID Search though.

same problem possible solution

mine is full as well on my 396T but i put all the known control chans on and divided the site into each group on one system th sitew as my home site i dedicate to the ones i pick up most if th TGID is exclusive to only one site its on that sites group this is the only way i have found since i have filled it up many times i have had to rearrange several times. work best for me
