I will be going on a Caribbean cruise in a couple months. I am considering trying to monitor the AM UHF band for activity. How far away from the US shore will I hear traffic? Should I search from 225-380 or 225-400? Is there ANY AM left from 380 to 400? Or, could I hear Naval vessels shipboard repeaters between 380 and 390? Also, I assume that there is no reason to scan through ILS frequencies, is there? Should I use 100 kHz steps or 25 kHz steps?

If near a Vessel the LMR will/can/might be
380-400, 400-420 and 457/467 Pairs

I'd recommend 225-400 so you hear ac talking to upper level ATC. Might not get both sides but some is better than none.
