Knoxville region is almost the only area they have not patched/encoded the UHF non telemetry stuff to the TRS systems in use. Everyone still uses the UHF telemetry feeds for EKG,EEG etc. (Region includes Sevier County also at least last I knew as they still didn't have a NXDN EMS to ER/ED set up that I knew of. Once they do that then literally everything will be E except dispatch there. Knox County is using the TACN more an more so would not surprise me to see the UHF go quieter before too long.)

Is the entire TACN System encrypted? All of Sullivan county is I know, and Hawkins county just recently switched and it apparently is too. I used to be able to hear the fall branch division of THP but now I hear nothing. I think its entirely encrypted on this east end of the state.

No, only a few areas are encrypted on TACN. THP has encrypted tg, but are not fully encrypted. They are phase 2 TDMA though.

UHF/VHF/800 are all used in Shelby County. Memphis Fire has an 800mhz talk group for each hospital. The 'burb city fire units use UHF Medcom. Private and Fayette County use VHF 155.340/155.205. Hospital Wing uses 155.280.

Most of the medical traffic is transmitted on 463.00 in Memphis/Shelby County, TN no matter what the unit is transmitting on. Seems to go direct the personnel in the ERs. Memphis Air Wing uses 152.900 for flight following/dispatch. They have a couple of other freqs that are not within range of Memphis scanners. The 152.900 transmitter is located in north MS and is shared with other services in MS. 155.34 and 155.280 are used by various ground units. When a Memphis Fire contacts MedCom on a trunked channel, their report to the ER can be heard on 463.00.

Memphis MedCom used to follow and track the helos but this is now done by the Air Wing themselves via 152.900.

State of TN EMS board is very late to any discussions about TRS usage. In fact, it's still state law that every licensed ambulance in TN maintains licenses and equipment on VHF 155.205, 155.295, and 155.340. About 18 months ago there was the first information from the State that they were considering using TACN TRS for EMS comms (I'm assuming in place of VHF and UHF).

However, I doubt you'll ever see the UHF MED Channels go away completely. There are too many instances of out of area units transporting that need to talk to hospitals that would utilize UHF MED Channels (like a KY ambulance from Corbin transporting a trauma to UT in Knoxville if Aeromedical was unable to fly due to weather).

Other posters above are correct. the UHF MED Channels are very heavily utilized in/around Knoxville (Knox, Sevier, Anderson, Blount, Loudon counties). I suspect similar usage in/around Nashville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

The UHF med Chanels are not in use in Nashville as all the Metro FD ambulances have talkgroups for the hosptials and each ER has a mobile radio set up as a base. The surrounding counties Rutheford and williamson are the same way. If an out of county ambulance or helicopter calls into Davidson Co hospital they call into medcomm on 154.205 and they will dial up the recieving hospital on 155.340 to take the incoming run. There is talk that there is going to be 600 TACN Radios being installed in All public owned ambulances that do not already have a TACN compabable radio installed..

Interesting. That's the similar info I saw last year about ambulances being provided TACN access (radios?) by the State Board of EMS.

UHF med channels were never a thing down here in Chattanooga, outside of LIFEFORCE operating a few repeaters for their helicopters. 155.205/155.340 are still around, but everything is primarily on TVRCS.

Interesting info. While I thought E TN (Knox Area) were ahead of the curve, it appears we're behind the curve, so to speak, for EMS to Hospital comms?
