Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I was traveling about with my UHF Systems SABER III and discovered an oddity with PL 107.2 HZ. As I was switching to a new repeater on Florida SARNET my transmission was met with a random low frequency "BONK" as if it were VCO unlocked or in an unprogrammed mode. At first I thought it was a mechanical way I was pushing the PTT, perhaps a short on the control flex. But soon I found I could repeat this anomaly on any of the other channels with 107.2 HZ PL tone. Maybe it is modulation comp, though I meticulously adjusted it. Has anyone found that certain PL tones are intermittent on the Systems SABER radio?

It's an almost 40 year old radio, component ageing has probably caused certain circuit values to shift to the point that the 107.2 PL tone is causing an oscillation problem that's unlocking the VCO.

Problems like this can be expected at SOME point as the radio and its components age and drift off value. Electronics won't last forever.

Luckily I have no shortage of spare parts and a complete duplicate radio with same channel programming. I brought up the topic because years ago, a friend of mine who was an MCX1000 power user , encountered PL problems that necessitated the factory issuing several firmware updates.
