What is the Utah Highway Patrol actually using? I see in the Data Base a Motorola type II and set of freq's using conventional freq's in the 150.'s Which is more commonly used and which is the best to monitor while traveling from St. George to Wyoming

UHP is usually dispatched by the local county dispatch centers in the southern Utah and other rural areas. The UHP on the UCAN system is mostly along the Wasatch Front but most (if not all) of the northern Utah UHP is still simocast on VHF. So if that's all your interested in monitoring that would probably be your best bet

UHP from St. George:
155.625 - UHP Virgin (Washington Co.)
154.695 - UHP Iron County (Cedar City Area)
155.565 - UHP Beaver & Millard County

The above are dispatched out of Cedar City. Beaver and Millard don't share dispatch with UHP but there has been traffic from the troopers on their frequencies since they work the freeway as well:
155.865 - Beaver County
154.995 - Millard County

UHP in Juab is dispatched out of Richfield on Levan Peak, 151.220 and can sometimes be heard on the Juab S.O. channel 154.800.

UHP in Utah County is still simocast on 155.625 as is Salt Lake on 154.905 (both dispatched out of SLC) and up Parleys Canyon through Summit County and simocast on 155.610 to the Wyoming state line (dispatched by Summit County S.O.)

Hope this helps.

The UHP uses both UCAN and Conventional. They are still on conventional from Utah/Juab County lines south to the Nevada state line and UCAN for Utah, Salt Lake and Summit counties. However, the conventional freqs are still patched through out the entire state for all of their respected counties.
