Hi guys! Just bought a UM435 and am trying to connect to the NMEA 2000. The supplied radio cord has a brown, green, white, yellow, orange, red, bare and black wires.
The NMEA drop has red, black, white, light blue and two bare wires.
What colors do I connect to get the GPS data and the DSC to work correctly.
The internet has my head spinning from trying to find out.

Thank you!

First, you will need the pinouts for the UM435 and the NMEA 2000
Typically a serial port, then matching the TX, RX, and possible handshaking.
The DSC should take it from there.

So, you're saying that I need something different than the supplied 8 wire/pin accessory cable? The cable they supplied is what the instructions say to use.

NMO's installed, while-u-wait.
NEMA183 used by your radio is not directly compatible with NEMA2000 used by your other devices. You'll need an adapter device.

Do an Amazon search for NEMA183 to NEMA2000 adapter. That'll get you going in the right direction.

The communications protocols are different, and you can't just wire the two together.

Still trying to understand this. The power cable to my 943 is below. It is an 8 pin just like the radio and is a NMEA 0183 port. Can't I connect to the wires there? I hate electricity/ghosts so pardon my lack of understanding.

OK, that's helpful. Your Garmin 943 does have a NEMA0183 interface, in addition to the NEMA2000.

So, connecting the NEMA0183 interface of the radio to the NEMA0183 interface of the chartplotter is pretty easy.

You need to connect the NEMA0183 TxA (out+) on the chartplotter to the NEMA0183 RxA (In+) on the radio.
The NEMA0183 TxA (out+) on the radio goes to the NEMA0183 RxA (In+) on the chartplotter
Connect the grounds together.
Don't connect the power leads.

Let me see if I can give you the colors here, give me a few minutes.

OK, try this:

Chart Plotter Blue wire goes to Radio Yellow wire (Data +)
Chart Plotter Grey wire goes to Radio Green wire (Data -)
Chart Plotter Black wire goes to Radio bare wire (ground)
Tape off all the other wires so they can't touch anything.

That'll send your GPS data from the chart plotter to your radio.

Be aware that there may be some menu settings that need to be configured correctly. Sitting down with the manuals may help with that (or not). But try it as above

That is awesome. Looks like I found the correct place. Thank you very much. Can't hook it up until it warms up, up here in Alaska.
