To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,
I have bought Baofeng DR-1801 device, don't mix it with DM-1801, and I am not able to connect it to my PC.
It is mostly useless because I can't enter any talkgroups manualy to the device, I have to enter them over programming software using PC.
When I connect cable from the box it appears in device manager as "USB-SERIAL CH340" but programming software does not read any data from device. I get "timeout error".
Then I ordered another cable from eBay and it does not even show up in device manager.
I don't know what to do. Am I doing something wrong, am I able to add talk group directly from device... Any help would be much appreciated.

What software program are you using? Chirp-Next or Baofeng’s own programmer or something else? Are you positive that you have the correct COM port selected?

DR-1801 is a DMR radio. Chirp doesn't work with DMR radios.
Thanks for your comment. Admittedly, I did not take the time to see what type of radio a Baofeng DR-1801 actually was. Mainly I was looking for some additional baseline information to get started with.

i have the dr1801uv and I can get it to write to the radio, but i do not know what to put in the slots on the codeplug. It seems to be reaching the repeater, but I get nothing when I try to do echotest with parrot, so I not sure it is transmitting or receiving. there is a slot for contact in the channel setting. it also has a slot for receive group. I am putting the repeater dmr ID in contact and have receive list let up for local, parrot, prn1 prn2, and nothing works. there is a direct tdma setting . not sure what to do . I know talkaround is for simplex operation.

Not sure if you figured it out, but here's what I did: You create a digital channel, input the correct RX and TX frequencies, then you need to create a contact, add that to a receive group, add the contact and Rx group to your channel, put the correct CC and Slot, and you should be good.

Not sure about your BaoFeng, but, I had purchased a Wouxun KG-UVN1 analog/digital HT. I worked on the code plug for 6 months trying to get it to send and receive to no avail. One weekend, I decided that I was going in-depth with the programming to find out what I was doing wrong. In the check boxes on the code plug, I started checking ones that were unchecked one at a time and then trying the radio - no good. I then tried unchecking the ones that were checked and when I got to the one that said "Allow Talkaround" and unchecked it, solved my transmit and receive problems. That may be your problem or possibly some other little known check box may need checking or unchecking.
Good Luck and 73!

As @nd5y said, not Chirp supported according to their list
