I am using Sentinel for my BCD436HP. I am trying to update the HPDB. I have followed the directions and every time it says Unable to connect to the remote server. Is the remote server down? Did I accidentally delete something I shouldn't have? Can I get it back?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I just updated with no problem.

Is this the first time you have tried to update the database? If so, probably a firewall restriction on your end.

Is there any mention of a time-out error?

Is it possible to type in NEW frequencies & talkgroups in the Favorites List using Sentinel for my BCD436HP? I have been completely unable to update my database. Something is preventing me from downloading updates.

Didn't work. Everytime I click on Update & Update Master HPDB it says unable to connect to remote server.

The same message appears when trying to update Firmware as well.

You may want to check the firewall settings on your computer and/or router... It may be blocking an "ftp" download...

I see this was mentioned above... But did you check it?

This is an older thread. Have you been unable to update your database since May? If this is the case I'd think you have firewall issues. Are you able to read and write from Sentinel to the scanner? If so I'd really consider turning off your fire wall very, very briefly and attempt to download the DB and firmware updates.

This is confusing. I just downloaded the software with the same issue for my new BCD436. I deleted everything, re-downloaded the sentinel software, runned it as an administrator, turned off the firewall, and nothing. I have the latest 1.06 sentinel software and Windows 10. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Does Sentinel recognize your scanner?

Both installs were done as an administrator and yes Sentinel recognizes the scanner but will not update the database. The only one I can get was updated on 09/24/2013, even when I reconstruct the full database under options.

Again... "make sure you're using the latest version of Sentinel."

Also, installing as an administrator does not mean it runs as an administrator - at least that's what I've read others say. I try to stay away from Windows versions with those issues.

Does anyone know the IP address of the Database server? If so, you can run a command prompt and try to ping that location to verify you can atleast speak to the server. If a ping attempt is successful but the software is still saying cant connect to database then you have something going on with your security software. There is also a remote possibility it could be a driver issues with your networking card, so update your drivers for the heck of it. I would also suggest going into your router and setting up your computer as the dmz host. Most routers have this option - this will help ensure the router itself isnt blocking the traffic.

Yes, I have a satellite ISP. What effect does that have on updating the database and how can I fix it?
