Was just watching Ch 5's Sat. morning newscast (of course!) and there was a story on the Lindsay police chief & a recent drug bust. The chief was shown looking at the local paper, supposedly reading it and he says something like "Unauthorised use of police radio - $5,000". Anybody have any idea what this was all about?

anyone who posesses a police radio or scanner while commiting a crime faces charges of "posession of a police scanner while commiting a crime"
i think its a felony but im not 100% sure. That 5000.00 could be the bond for him using the radio to listen to police during the drug deals he was making so he could hear if they were watching him or his loser drug heads.
if it was an officer involved in illegal drug dealing and using his radio to keep on duty officers away or to monitor them then that is also unauthorized use of a police radio.5000.00 could be an fcc fine?or could again be the bond ammount????????

I know it's against the law. I am wanting the details of the specific incident being referred to.

Lindsay Drug Bust

Mark--

The line was part of a takeoff of the old American Express Commercial:

"Illegal Use of Police Radios............$5,000."

"Possession of Drug Paraphenalia .....$1,000."

"Seeing drug delaers in jail.............priceless."

Unfortunately, I know the next question will be regarding exactly what the pair in jail is alleged to have done. I don't know the answer to that, except that they were apparently charged with illegal use of police radios.

If I can find out more, I'll let you know.

Yeah, I've sent an email to a friend at the station, but I'm not gonna hold my breath until I get a response.

I thought it was funny, the friends getting arrested for stealing the newspapers in an attempt to keep the drug bust quiet. In a town as small as Lindsay, the gossip likely had the story all across town before the paper ever came out!

mfolta, what I was thinking of doing was call the newspaper in Lindsay, but being as how it's the weekend, I figured I'd try here first, in case anybody was familiar with the whole story. I'm betting I know the photog at 5 that did the story, but as I remarked above, it might take awhile before he answers his email.
