• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi all,

I know this is an unpopular radio due to the fact it's Tier1; however; it does seem like it would make an acceptable radio for a simplex DMR hotspot.

I got one yesterday from a guy who had it in a drawer for a couple of years after he bricked it. Apparently he did something that cleared out the codeplug and the radio would boot up with "ZONE 1 UNPROGRAMMED" set to a frequency of all zeros and emitting a tone from the speaker before the display blanked out. The original owner told me that in conversations with Radioddity they mentioned something about using JTAG. He had none of that information and I couldn't find any. So in my Googling I found that user Gyuri961012 made a thread about the firmware in which he provided a link to both the firmware and a tool he said fixed his radio.

I found nothing else on the subject and the general consensus that most places pretty much disavowed the fact this radio exists. So I connected the cable and started doing stuff.

What I ultimately wound up doing was flashing the .79 firmware with the tool; which worked. The radio still booted up in his locked state. For some reason...I decided to try booting it up by holding PTT and the orange "man down" button; which someone in the same thread said you used to get in to service mode.

Well...it didn't put me in service mode; instead what it seemed to do was factory reset the radio. Now it's all in Chinese...but it has other channels besides 000.000, isn't emitting the tone, and you can get in to the menus.

So, whatever I did...it unbricked it. If this helps anyone, great. Otherwise...this does seem like it's a pretty flawed radio if you want to use it with a repeater; but it should be fine with a simplex hotspot.

Just a followup.

After several hours of trying to figure out how to get to Tyt's website which was apparently up despite not working on 3 different VPNs; I found one that actually got me in. I was able to acquire the CPS and not just reprogram the radio to have English menus again; but I was able to get it working with the simplex hotspot and verify that...yes; whatever I did actually fixed the radio.
