I am a little confused on entering PLtones according to what is displayed in some database colums.

Sample display

F01 154.2050 136.5 Calremont Fire Dept.
F02 154.1300 114.8 Derry Area Fire
F03 154.2950 210.7 Dover Fire Dept.
F04 154.4150 229.1 Durham Fire Dept.
F05 154.4000 136.5 Exeter Fire Dept.
F06 158.8800 136.5 Goffstown Fire Dept.
F07 154.1450 136.5 Hampton Area Fire
F08 158.7600 136.5 Hooksett Fire Dept. (Cap Ch-7)
F09 154.3700 136.5 Hooksett Fire Dept. (Cap Ch-6)
F10 153.9500 136.5 Hudson Fire Dept.
F11 151.1750 D-466 Londonderry Fire Dept.
F12 153.9800 136.5 Merrimack Fire Dept.
F13 153.7700 173.8 Portsmouth Fire Dept.
F14 154.9800 103.5 Rochester Fire Dept.
F15 158.8875 97.4 Salem Fire Dept.
F16 154.3700 136.5 Milford Fire Dept.

Under Londonderry there is a tone labeled D-466. What do I enter in the PL-Tone?

Others list P-25. Is this an automatic setting recognized by the frequency input?

Be advised I am running a Pro-2096 and using Win96.

Also is there a link to a topic that would explain PL-Tones and so forth?

Thank you kind folks for your input.

Bill,
I am by no means an expert here but this is my best understanding of what you need to do.

When you are entering your PL's you need to click on the 'FM' under the 'MODE' column and select 'CT' (for ctcss) then go and input the tone number into the 'CT/DC column.

For entering DPL's (your D-466 example) click on the 'FM' and selsct 'DC' then enter the 466 in the 'CT/DC column.

I believe for the APCO freqs you need to select 'MOT' and the scanner takes it from there.

The first two I am sure about, it's the P-25 stuff I am not possitive of as I don't have any of those type single freqs programmed into my radio.

I hope this is of some help.

Thanks guys.

Tom, I just entered that into the ct/dc column and when I hit enter it converted it to 254.1. Does this mean it kind of converted from hex to binary or something?

Thanks

Bill,

I just ran that through my Win96 and it looks like you selected "CT" in the mode column, instead of "DC". When in "CT" (for PL's) it see's the 466 as 254.1, the highest recognized PL tone. The Win96 program will auto-complete a partial or slightly incorrect PL tone to the nearest correct one, in this case 254.1 is the closest to the 466 you entered. When the tone is listed here as D-466 that signifies it uses DPL (Digital Private Line) and the "DC" must be selected in the mode column and the listed tone will then be accepted as it is listed '466' in this example.
I see you are a premium subscriber here at RR, have you tried the web import feature of Win96 yet, it does make things a lot easier. I use it to quickly build new setups and then I go back and edit the alpha tags to fit the display and my personal preference of having everything in UPPER CASE lettering. I know it's deemed as bad form on the web but I have always found it much easier to read.
