I installed the latest firmware (v2.00.07) a week or so ago (previous version was 1.11.03), mainly just because I'd let it go for a few months and thought it was about time.

That previous version was the first update to incorporate the hidden AGC Adjustment Tweak, and I had it pretty well set. Can't remember the settings, but average observed levels of audio were pretty balanced.

Doesn't seem to be the case with the new version. I've got the Ref Gain settings between the two maxed to opposite ends of the scale (both AGCs "On"), and the digital side is still a bit lacking.

I've read a couple of comments from UpMan about having your conventional channels set for modulation on the "FM" setting as opposed to "Auto", which with the latter usually results in those channels showing up as "NFM", which might explain why they're louder.

So my question is, is there a way to change that aspect of a complete conventional system without having to re-do (re-establish) the system from scratch? Change from Auto to FM? If so, I'll experiment further.

I agree, when I did the last update 2.00.07, I lost the bost of the digital volume. The update did not change that setting but even when I try to adjust to the max it still lower then the average analog. Before in the car I was OK as long I had the radio down, now I have to turn off the radio, keep the window up with no a/c and leave the fan on anything but high and I can mostly hear it.

Well, I found out that (despite the screwy original manual's reference to Search and Close Call modulation settings on page 90 - somebody went nuts with the cut and paste) you have to go to Channel Level Settings and edit each channel in the group to change modulation from the default (Auto, which gives you NFM) to FM. I don't think I want to go that route, even if I use software to program.

I also edited a channel name (directly on the radio) for the first time since updating my firmware to v2.00.07. I know this change occurred a couple of revs ago, but previously in doing this, to change a letter, you scroll to the letter, hit either the "E" key or punch down on the scroll, then hold FUNC and scroll over to the next letter position. You don't have to take your right hand off the scroll control, and it's pretty fast once you get it down.

Now with the new firmware (actually since v1.13.17), only by using the "<4" key or ">6" key can you move the cursor left and right. This is now consistent with the explanation of controls in the early part of the original manual, but it negates moving it with the scroll control, which is detailed later in the manual in sections related to editing System, Group, and Channel names. Now you've gotta move your right hand off scroll and down to the keypad to punch those keys. Seems like they had to make it one way or the other, but not allow both.

You win some and you lose some. But I know most of you freaks use software to program your radios anyway (ha-ha).
