• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I just bought a G4 to monitor my local 800MHz P25 Simulcast System and so far it works great, even with a few missing features that I wished I could have such as a manual and lockout button it still beats any P25 scanner I have ever owned hands down when it comes to the P25 audio reception and the units overall build quality and design. However, I have noticed that some users on my local system are much louder or quieter than others, this leads me to believe this is caused by AGC being disabled. Does anybody know if this is a programming problem on my part, or something else out of my reach.

I have the same problem with my G4 and also with both my Relm BK professional radios. It has to do with the transmitting radio. The users I believe need to be educated on mike distance from their mouths. Sometimes it's so loud, I don't see how the dispatchers can stand it. I have AGC enabled on my Relms and it helps a little. There is no user adjustment in the G4. On another note, My 996XT has always had the problem, and no adjustments I have ever made with it's AGC make any difference.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but on my KNG2 under the AMBE tab i have Noise Suppression checked and Automatic Gain Control checked with -22 as the average voice level.
I am not having any issues with to loud or to low voice.

With out AGC checked i did have loud and quiet people on the radio.

PM me if you want to discuss this further.
