To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).
This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.
The BT version on the info screen seems to make no difference. Both my G4 and G5 show BT ver 2.0 but both pair with the VR3 speaker from Home Depot which states it uses BT 4.2. So the problem with the Apple buds must be specific to them and not the BT vers.

It's not quite that simple. From what I understand; BT 4.x can be backwards compatible with older BT versions, *if* it's using the older BD/EDR protocols, but the newer BLE protocol is only implemented in 4.x. Presumably the devices that work with the Gx BT2.x (such as your VR3 speaker) are not using BLE.

Plantronics M165 bluetooth phone earpiece works too although volume is pretty low, I think it's because the rubber cover on the speaker is torn and won't fully seat in my ear, it gets way louder pressing it into the ear. You have to turn the G5 up to around 80 to hear it halfway decently. I like this one because it's small and only in one ear.
I purchased them approximately a year ago for my G5. They do work. As already mentioned sound not always the greatest. Total physical size a little big.
I'll mirror what others have said. My G5 won't pair with AirPods, my PrimeBlue RSM, Bose Sound Link- the only thing I have successfully paired with is a Plantronics Explorer 110. However, while using it with the 110, the G5 reset several times,(for seemingly no particular reason). I gave up on using BT.
The Bluetooth on these devices is pretty much useless even if you do find a speaker system that is compatible it always seems to time out and have to reset itself the volume isn’t loud enough to hear anything anyways don’t waste your time
I have tinnitus in both ears, so I go with simply can i understand what's said? Yes, I can. Now that you mention it, I have tried to turn up the volume past 100% for my 'bad' ear.
I prefer the Icom with a Secret Service style earpiece. These can be used with hearing protection and without, just change earbud out.
