• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

No question. I though to share since I never saw this radio before.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on RR about the Unication products of late. That is why they now have their own forum. They are a solution to the LSM problem consumer scanners (Uniden and Whistler) have. Phase 2 support is coming early next year, we are told.

To be fair, the discussions have been mostly about problems or "issues" with the units. They claim the unit works on P25 simulcast so I'll give them credit there. But in terms of the possible overheating of the unit causing the speaker to have issues and the annoyances that owners have mentioned. I don't see this item selling for $850. I would maybe do $400. I would research this unit before blowing almost a grand on something that is not perfect.

I totally disagree with this assessment of the G4/G5. Unication has been proactive in resolving issues that have come up. You can spend $600 on a new modern scanner and have no solution to LSM reception. I had a problem with a defective battery, They immediately shipped me a new pager and had me send mine back to the engineers for troubleshooting. Absolutely no cost to me and only about a 3 day turnaround. I have not had the audio issue with either radio and don't believe it's a wide spread problem. They also listened to us and have started revising the FW to better accommodate our wishes.
I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a high end receiver for P25 LSM.

I can second this statement.
I have a G4, had it for several months and i noticed a bug initially where any system with a user or console with ID of 0 would not pass audio. They took the feed back and have been working on a fix. I have been pleased with the performance of the unit as well as the ability to give feed back to the company.

It is smart to do research on any large purchase but a product like this can be an amazing device in the right hands and im sure a lot of system administrators would love for people to buy these to monitor systems instead of buying a 2-way radio that has the capability of being bricked and or causing interference with the system.
