• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Greeting everyone. Pretty new to this all so any help highly appreciated. So what I am trying to do is setup the G5 to mainly have Temple,Belton,Morgan's Point & Killeen TX Fire/PD and Sheriff/DPS when going towards Bryan/College Station passing by Waco. And if possible some Game Warden

This is what I have tried to setup

I know its a total mess and will take any info and pointers and help

I used Bell County (P25) info
Bell Simulcast
TxWARN
GATRRS
HOTRRS

and think I got it all weird and wrong

Also noticed today that the reception bar has the T with a lightning bolt and full bars( can not find what that means)

The only thing I can help you with at the moment, is that the symbol, I think is a torch - it is definitely a good thing, a sign that you are receiving from a tower. There are some good youtube videos out there that have helped me.

Edit - this is the best one. You'll need to watch it a few times and stop/start and follow along.

So is Bell County using P25 Phase 2 now or are they still on the old system? I'm seeing both in the database.

T meants its in normal Trunking mode. S means your on Site Trunking.
T means your on the right track.
Common issues i see new people run into is making sure you have the correct Site and RFSS info and the correct control channels for the site your trying to monitor.
With wide area systems you will typically only get talk groups close to you and no ones from across the state or 5 counties away.
Start with a system close to you with local PD and FD to get familiar with how to program. Then branch out to other systems.
These things take some getting used to and do require some pre planning of how you want to have zones and channel knobs set up. Since they dont have talk group hold or lock out make sure to leave your self options to have police or fire talk groups on knobs of their own, especially if they are channels you would want to hold on with a normal scanner.
