Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is how I would like to set up my Unication G5 pager on a P25 system.

I would like it to mimic a Motorola Minitor 6 as much as possible.
  • Zone 1
  • Knob 1 - Selective Call
  • QC11 over P25
  • Fire Page Tones
  • EMS Page Tones
  • Separate pager alert tones per department
  • Always on Duty for FD and selectable for EMS
  • Knob 2 - Monitor Knob 1
  • Allow pager to activate via the features in Knob 1
  • Separate pager alert tones per department
  • Ability to listen to all traffic on Knob 1
  • Knob 3 - Tri County scan (A,B,C)
  • Three Separate county’s on one knob position
  • Allow the features listed in Knob 1
  • Knob 4 - County A
  • Allow the features listed in Knob 1
  • Knob 5 - County B
  • Allow the features listed in Knob 1
  • Knob 6 - County C
  • Allow the features listed in Knob 1
  • Knob 7 – OPEN
  • TBD
  • Knob 8 – Selective Call
  • QC11 over P25
  • Fire Page Tones Only
  • pager alert tones per department
Is this possible? And is anyone willing to help me via remote?
Is it possible to design and share a code plug with the above outline, Plugging in the TG's later?

Mike

Do you have a codeplug for the Minitor VI? If yes, Unication's PPS will convert the M6 codeplug into a G-Series profile and immediately load to your pager.

It will convert M6 to Gs, but the M6 never supported P25. So in order to mimic the M6, you would have to build that codeplug in the Gs pager using the software.

To answer the OP's question, yes, what you are looking to do is completely doable. As long as the OP doesn't need to monitor Trunking + Conventional on the same key or two different trunk systems, he can do what he's looking to do.

But there may be a problem with his counties knob. He can only catch 1 tower on the knob. See he may hear county A, but not county b of c surrendering in what talkgroups are affiliated to what towers

The pager's Duty setting is either "On" or "Off" - but no customization to let through tones for [Agency A] and exclude for [Agency B].

The other big caveat - as noted above - a single knob position cannot monitor/scan both a trunked site and conventional channels. Nor can a single knob position monitor/scan multiple trunked systems.

A single knob position can:
  • Scan a single trunked system, with a maximum of 64 Talkgroups in that knob position. The only workaround is designating a wildcard.
  • Scan multiple conventional frequencies, but it's a max of 16 conventional. Note you can scan both P25 Conventional and traditional analog conventional channels in the same knob position. You just can't do a P25 Trunked system in the same knob position as conventional freqs.
Without knowing which agencies/frequencies needed but generally speaking to the layout you describe:
  • If any of the agencies are Trunked, this config isn't possible. You'd have to re-design your knobs so max 1 trunked system per knob position.
  • If wants to toggle alerts on/off via the Duty setting with that mixed Fire = Yes, EMS = maybe...that is not possible. But you can change the layout so that a specific knob position alerts on only the agencies you desire. In effect, your "duty" status is really the knob position you select.
Overall though, if someone gave me these specs and asked what pager could get me closest, I'd say Unication. Also: your Unication dealer should be able to program this for you. If you don't have a dealer, there are folks on here who will recommend theirs. Personally my agency uses Phil Leavitt of Leavitt Communications...and we're not even in his "area"...dude is just phenomenal with quick replies, good support, in the know, great pricing, warranty issues laughably easy and fast. You can also locate a dealer via Uni's website just fill out this form Authorized Unication Dealer Locator

Good luck!
