• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Will a G5 act like a radio does and determine which control channel is the active "active control channel"?

Yes, and when programming systems into the pager you only program in the control channels

Yes, obviously, but I’m saying there’s 12 control channels on RR for this site. Will the pager figure out what ones actually active and remember that?

Since you don't share the system/site you are talking about, I doubt the site has 12 control channels in reality, it probably has one and two alternates. But yes, it will pick out the cc.

Okay, and one last thing. If I want to monitor trunked and conventional together, would I be able to “Scan” a knob that scans conventional nobs and another nob that scans trunked?

Okay, and if I was to import all sites for the system, will the pager recognize which site it is closest two, and use that site?

As @62Truck said, nope. Id also add it will not allow you to listen to two different systems or sites at the same time as well. Keep in mind, these are not scanners, they are designed to be used by public safety agencies, especially fire departments for paging tones. But, the scanner hobby likes the decode quality and durability of them and keeps trying to make it into a scanner.

It will recognize the first site it is able to decode as it scans through, this may not be the closest or strongest signal.

Unless the system is Harris which will have multiple control channels . In that case you would need to input all the control channels. You would need to program one system per zone.

Okay, what's the best way to get around this? Make a manual list?

Program site 1 in knob 1, site 2 in knob 2 etc etc and maybe put knob 8 with all sites in case you travel outside your local area. You will also need to enter them separately in your lists of systems, one with site 1 another identical system with site 2 etc etc

Would I be able to do this on seperate zones for each system and then make another zone which you can select which system by it monitoring the system on the knob monitor thing, and then the next knob could be referencing to a different zone and monitoring that?

Sorry you lost me here, maybe because it is late and I've been working outside in the heat all day. I'm sure someone will respond

so zone 1 would be the zone i stay on, but knob 1 would reference to monitor zone 2 talkgroups and stuff,
knob 2 would be to see zone 3 stuff and monitor that stuff, etc.

Yup. The radio does have it limitations but at the same time its pretty flexible. Once you learn how the pager works and some of its limitations you can get pretty creative with the knob positions.

Oh amazing! And I assume if I go to program it and it doesn't like something, it'll let me know through the software?

Yes if there is something the PPS doesn't like it will tell you.

I'm not sure which version of PPS you are using, but there are a few vidoes on YouTube that go over some of the settings.
