Wondering if anyone with experience with the Unication pagers can advise;

I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on a Unication pager but I have concerns… it’s expensive, I don’t want to buy one only to learn the agencies you want to monitor change systems or modes or encrypt a year later and you get to repurpose your Unication page to a door wedge. I would like to monitor both PD & FD in Farmington. 855.2375MHz & 154.19MHz respectively. Any input is appreciated.

Send it! You will need the Dual Band G5, and you will definitely be impressed.

Afaik Farmington is not upgrading anytime soon. And if they do, it is highly unlikely the Fire department will go enc. And you will always have systems like CLMRN and West Hartford too…

Exactly. The agency could upgrade to another mode, frequency band, encrypt, etc. Just fishing for any u do that might indicate a change is in the wind…

You will not be able to monitor both at the same time, they will need to be on separate knob positions, unless those are both conventional frequencies, which it looks like they are. But, as others have said, quality is excellent. I spend more time using my G5 than my scanner.

I personally haven't heard of any intent for change. You'll be able to scan between the channels fine, only thing it won't scan is conventional and trunked at the same time , or two trunked systems simultaneously

What gives you the impression the FD would encrypt if there was an upgrade?

To Smartconnect; Sorry, I miss-read your post to mean it was highly likely, not highly unlikely encryption. .

To all;
Thanks for the info. As for the number of times encryption was mentioned in this thread… it’s not a consideration when purchasing. So it does not need to be mentioned going forward.

even if they did end up going that route, if you sweet talk the right people, they may be willing to load the key into your pager.

You can never tell what a department is going to do.
I don't listen to much police so Fire departments going to the CLMRN are a win for me as I can get them much better and further away then when they were conventional.
I have 3 G5s and they work great, all of them have over 40 zones in them, they do have some limitations but they are pagers not scanners
