Anyone using a Unication reciever on MPSCS, particularly on Macomb County's Simulcast system?

Unication Receiver on MPSCS

I have the G4. I use it mostly for Detroit but I have listened to Macomb a little bit.I haven't driven around Macomb much but the little bit I've listened to it will work. I drove around Dearborn today listening to West Wayne and took a little trip thru Lincoln Park/Melvindale listening to the Downriver Wayne system. It works on their system too. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

From what I hear Detroit's simulcast system is one of the most challenging to monitor, so that's a good endorsement.

What are the limitations of the Unication with regards to trunking, talk-groups, etc. I understand it's lacking as a 'scanner'. How are people working around the limitations?

I've been fortunate to get great performance from my Uniden BCD996P2 with Macomb County's simulcast system at my home. But I've been looking for something more portable and easier to move when changing vehicles.

Thanks for your input.

There are 8 zones and each zone has 8 knob positions. I have multiple talk groups in each knob position. Looking it up on the internet it says 64. I found a youtube video someone from Saginaw County explaining how to program the pager. I have Detroit, Eastern Wayne, West Wayne, Downriver Wayne, Macomb County, St. Clair County & Monroe County programmed in & fire talk groups programmed in. Dispatch TG's are in knob position 1 with fire ground TG's in knob position 2. I read that they are working on a firmware upgrade for Phase 2 that will be available for purchase. Their FAQS page said MSRP $150. I imagine MPSCS will upgrade to Phase 2 at some point in the future. The limitation to me is that as I drive thru the various counties I have to pull over and select which county I want to listen to. The plus to me is it's like listening to Detroit Fire when they were on VHF. Their transmission doesn't drop out like it does on the scanner due to the multipath distortion.

If I'm understanding this correctly you have 8 sites, and 8 talk-groups per site? So if I want to monitor say Macomb County Sheriff, I'd have to select that site, then only 1 talk-group, it would sit on that until I manually change it?

On the G4 or G5, you currently have the ability to configure:

32 zones - each with 8 knob positions (scanlists) that can be programmed with either:

- up to 64 talkgroups (one P25 site at a time) or
- up to 16 conventional channels

Hope I understood your question correctly....

No trunking and no scanning correct? Each has to be selected manually?

I use a G5 on the Washtenaw simulcast system, it handles it perfectly. I've had it on Detroit as well, performs perfect.

The G4/G5 does trucking and scanning.
