UNID Federal Freq - Big Bend

Anyone have any idea who would use 163.700 in the Big Bend area? I was thinking it might be border patrol, but I don't know. They have a repeater further east (between Ozona and Del Rio) that is P25 encrypted. I heard this 163.700 today very weakly from north of Ft. Stockton. It was analog encrypted, so I have no way to listen to figure out who it is. Any other guesses?? Under the RRDB, the Big Bend area BP doesn't use these freqs.

That's definitly Border Patrol. Their frequencies tend to fall in to a pretty standard group almost everywhere (with the exception of southern California).

Okay, so I'm renewing an old thread. Has anyone ever heard Border Patrol activity here in OKC on the scanner? I've never seen any marked vehicles and never heard any activity but I'm wondering if maybe in years past there has been something heard.

I agree with Chris, 163.700 is Border Patrol. I was in the Big Bend last week and confirmed the following as BP all with a pl of 100.0; 163.775, 163.625 and 163.700. In and around the Big Bend area, I noted their comms are analog and encrypted about 75% of the time. Around Del Rio all the BP comms were digital and encrypted.

The Border Patrol would probably not be operating in Oklahoma (no border with Mexico or Canada). In the past you might have heard the INS using 163.625 or 163.675, but the INS is no more. Now it's Immigration & Customs Enforcement, or ICE, part of the Department of Homeland Security. They might be more on Nextel now, but search around those frequencies listed in the previous message.
