Uniden 296d firmware software ?'s

I bought my 296 when they fiirst came out..i remember then On this site someone saying that there was a upgrade to have better sound and such.
That is if my 296 could get better in anyway, preferably audio !!!
Should I do the 2.6.9. thing whie powering on and get the firmare version and post it, if I do, will I reset everything in it if I need do this at all anyways.
I know there is a upgraded version of the 296 probably with better audio, my audio is identical to the 250 in my ears which is poorly poor.
Someone please help me with what I can do with my old model of the 296d..And if anyone knows where I am comming from, lol...sorry if This is a dumb question

I don't believe a firmware upgrade causes a memory wipe; however,if it does, it's always best to be safe than sorry - backing up the contents of your 296 is very easy, and there are many programs out there that can do this. That way, it's a snap to restore your previous settings with a minor amount of hassle. 73s Mike

No the firmware resets something but it gives out the version of the scanner and software..
My question is how and what do I do to get the most recently updated version....thanks mike....

I do not have the cord that came with my scanner I am wondering what yto do about that

Do i #1 Hook my scanner up to my computer and download files into it to be excact?

This is the page that relates specifically to your 296. Download and install the firmware update at the top of the page. It corrects some issues with how your scanner handles certain trunked systems. Once the rebanding process progresses (see the Wiki), Uniden plans to release another firmware update for that.

You need to down load the firmware update, following the installation instructions that are on the page. You will need the cable to connect your scanner to the pc.
