Okay folks,

I recently programmed my Uniden 396T scanner with the 20 frequencies in the trunked radio system I wish to monitor. I then programmed four APCO-25 type groups. When I try scanning using the ID SCAN I can hear chopped transmissions (police) from talkgroups that aren't programmed into the radio. When this happens ID SCAN is displayed and it never stops on any of the programmed talkgroups. I can press "HOLD" and manually select one talkgroup that I wish to monitor (fire dispatch) but again I hear police tranmissions!
Its almost as if its not trunking at all. It also flashes "Finding control channel".

To my knowledge, all priorities and the weather alert are off. I successfully programmed my 796D without issues but this is driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

Which system (url?). It sounds like it's hearing a system with a P16 control channel. (You program the 396 for P25 ONLY if the control channels are P25.

That is an issue with the radio when it can't find the CC. It will pick up audio from the other freq's you have programmed in the bank. The fact that it is telling you it can't find the CC is true too. You need a better antenna or you are too far away.

We're on a digital P25 system. Here's the URL to our system from the database.

Thanks,

That system is not a P25 System, try setting it as a Type II system, which it is, and that should help. A true P25 system has no analog talkgroups and this system lists it as Analog & Digital.

Try programming it as a Moto type 2 and not a P-25 system and see if that works.

Okay... I finally believe I found where the error is. The problem is how can I change it?
If I select PROGRAM SYSTEM ----> then SELECT SYSTEM (in my case Montgomery) ----> then EDIT SYSTEM OPTION my options from here are

*SET QUICK KEY
*SET LOCKOUT
*SET HOLD TIME
*SET DELAY TIME
*ID SCAN / SEARCH
*SET I-CALL
*EMERGENCY ALERT
*RVW ID: SRCH L/O
*CLR ALL L/O IDS
and finally *ADJUST P25 LEVEL.

While looking at the other systems that were programmed to Type II trunking systems I can EDIT FLEET MAP.

Is there a way that I can change the system settings from P-25 to a 800 Type II trunking system with radio keystrokes? I programmed the trunking info with a PC originally but its not currently available.

Hey guys, thanks for all of your help.

The system type can't be changed on the 396 or with the UASD software as far as I know. I think it can be changed in the ARC396 software.

Unfortunately, your only option without ARC396 is the create a new system of the proper type from scratch.

1) You can edit the .usd file. It's not supposed to work, but I did it and it works. Make a Type II system and save the file (as some dummy name). Then look at the header lines of both files and you'll see the difference.

2) 800 MHz type II systems don't have fleetmaps.

3) You were looking at the audio type. In the future look at the system type: System Type: Motorola Type II SmartZone

I had the same problem, I called Uniden and they said to change the UASD file .usd. I think it is suppose to be "M82S" this is what mine lloks like:

// BCD396T UASD Ver. 1.2.2.2 9/9/2005 6:23:07 PM
SystemCT,M82S,"Balto City",2,2,UNLOCKED,OFF,2,OFF,0,0,AUTO,8
SystemT,SCAN,Disabled,Disabled,DECIMAL,OFF,OFF,AUTO,DEFAULT

2nd line after SystemCT make it M82S and then save it, write it to the scanner and it should work. I am a newbie but I think I am correct. If I am not I apologize, just trying to help.

Uniden 396T Trunking Help ***FIXED***

Thanks guys. I changed the trunking type to a TYPE II system instead of P-25 and it works wonderfully. I managed to use the ARC396PRO software to do this which was a lifesaver.

It would've really upset me if I had to completely re-type everything out all over again.
Thanks for the troubleshooting assistance. I should've posted here much earlier than I did. I could've made the corrections instead of staying up until 3 a.m. with no clue as to what I was doing wrong.

In all fairness, you could have done as was suggested and edited the file. OR you could have simply used copy and paste within the UASD program. ARC396 was not required.

I myself have found that the software for the bcd396t is better than the bc250d software was. I did buy the arc2**d software because the software that came with the bc2**d scanner didn't allow one to tag banks and sub banks.
