Just got a 436HP and when scanning Aviation freqs, some ATC Center freqs are open squelch, and if you leave it on, can hear some pilots talking (who are presumably closer than the RCAG site, so I don't hear controller). Rest of freqs scanning ok with no squelch break issues, squelch up to 3-4. I'm assuming the remote RCAG site is so strong it's creating an open carrier, but even so, cannot hear the controller side.....just some aircraft that are closer to me who are up on that freq. As a side note, when you are actually close to a remote Center site, you can hear controller, and most, if not all aircraft assigned that freq. Any suggestions on how to prevent these static/squelch breaks which are stopping the scan, other than avoiding that freq?

You could set attenuation on the specific frequency. That would perhaps reduce the weaker signals (from farther away) on that channel letting you monitor those closer.

You also could use "negative delay". If you set that for either 5 or 10 seconds, then the scanner would resume scanning after the set 'negative delay' period expires.

The negatives are the -5 & -10 second choices. Set at a negative 5 delay, the scanner will leave the selected channel after 5 seconds, even if traffic is still being received. Your other negative delay choice is ten seconds.
