Uniden 996T GPS -- interfacing with factory GPS equipment

Has anyone researched the possibility of tapping the GPS signal from a vehicle with a factory installed system (as opposed to using an external receiver)? Specifically, I have a 2005 Tahoe Z71 with the factory navigation system. It just makes sense...

Yes I do have it..or, more accurately, the vehicle has it -- I simply haven't subscribed yet. Looks like a great idea! Does the factory nav system tap from this?
