I know it's a minor gripe, but we've been waiting for a couple of months now for the BCD-396T accessories to become available. Things like extra serial cables, belt clips, etc.

Obviously they're in production, as they're included with the radios, so can't they crank out a few more for accessory sales?

What did their customer service say? Have you tried via phone or just checking online?

There are 2 options for carry cases at scannermaster.com. Go to the radio reference home page and click on the link. The leather one is $29.95. Not to rag on you, but maybe e-mailing Uniden direct instead of getting other complainers out of the woodwork on such a beautiful day would be a better idea. It's warm and sunny in Chicago and no one is shooting....yet. So, it's a good day. I would like accessories too but if I want to know what and when I know how to e-mail direct instead of giving it up to "the forum".

Again, I'm not trying to be a major whiner. I'm very happy with my 396, happy enough that I ordered a 330 to supplement it yesterday. I hope we haven't gotten to a point of fanaticism where any criticism, no matter how small, is met with a challenge.

Have I called Uniden? No. Have I emailed customer service? No. Have I checked their website almost daily since I received my 396? Yes.

You see, I'm one of those folks that thinks if you have a web site, and you're trying to sell stuff to consumers, you should actually update it. If I'm looking for a book at Amazon, and it says they're out of stock, I don't call them to see if maybe their website is wrong. A corporate website is a mareting and sales tool, and if it's not updated, most customers will pound sand. I liken it to showing up at a store to buy a product, and them complaining that you didn't call first so they could go look for the item you want. It's not supposed to work that way. I'd go elsewhere, but in this case, there isn't an elsewhere, as Uniden is the sole source for accessories.

I know that the serial cable is the same as for the 330 and the 246, but that doesn't make it any more available. At least according to their website. Although they seem willing to take my money (charge the credit card immediately) and ship when it's no longer backordered. No thanks.

Thanks for the case recommendations, but I've already purchased those. From Waltel. Couldn't be happier.

Sorry if I ruffled feathers. And for the guy in Chicago, the day is young. Watch your six. ;)

Well I've called Uniden Customer Service regarding the status of the back orders of the following:

Wall Charger
Computer Cable
DC Charger

My nylon case was shipped immediately after purchase and I received it a few days later. But it's been about a month since I made the purchase and the items still remain on back order. So I decided to call them a few minutes prior to this thread. And the representative told me that the DC charger should be available by the 30th of this month. He said that he was unclear on the availability status of the wall charger or the computer cable. So I can understand why some may have some concerns about the manufacturing status of these items. And that wouldn't be a big deal to me, if my computer cable wasn't chewed by my dog, exactly one month from today. Plus, if the cable wasn't a proprietary part, waiting wouldn't be an issue. But my patience has allowed me to withstand a month. I believe another wouldn't be an issue. But I can't see going through the month of November without a change in the availability status of at least, the computer cable.
Thanks.

Funny you mention this...

I was looking for a copy of Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 since its' release October 3.

You can still not find it in Canada yet, and all the US "big box" stores show them as out of stock on their Web Sites. I was in Buffalo last week, dropped by a Best Buy, and there was half a dozen copies sitting on the shelf!?! I checked online while I was at the store, and according to the Best Buy Web Site, there were no copies in the entire State of New York!?!

Well Bud, according to the Rad Schack and some local electronic parts stores, they all say that the cable is proprietary to Uniden. I'm sure a work-a-round may be available eventually. But for now, I am going to assume that no one makes this cable right now but Uniden.

I had no luck on locating a cable on ebay. It looks like we could be at the mercy of Uniden. Man I'm in need of a firmware update. I'm still using the 1.08 version and 4 second burping is disastrous on the Tennessee Wildlife VHF P25 frequency. I had plans to take my 396 to Nashville. But until I update my firmware, it don't think I'll be traveling with it anytime soon. But anyway, I'll keep my eye open for a cable. But what I really hope is that Uniden surprises us with the news that the cables are in and will be delivered sometime soon.

For what it's worth, I just got off the phone with customer service at Uniden (10/17/2005 4:05pm EDT) and was told they expect to be able to ship the PC cables next week. I hope that "slow boat from China" is on time.

Hey Bro, sorry I wasn't here sooner......too many distractions here...ie.e the World Series, etc. You didn't ruffle feathers. I get frustrated too but it really brings the haters out when there are negative posts or complaints. From seeing the availabbility of the 396's, it looks like every time they run out of them somewhere the turn around time for those on "back order" has been 3 weeks. But, releasing new accessories is something else. I think they know the demand is here and Uniden wants our dollars. I like the different places to try to look for stuff. Now, this Waltels, do they have a website for the 396 case?... Thanks in advance. One guy posted about the SMA antenna. Is that the stock one or a better performing one?... The stock is kinda weak.

By the way, it is once again sunny in Chitown......but been several homicides since my last post....mainly drug, gang, and domestics. CPD just dropped one in his tracks after he stabbed and killed his wife and 32 yr old son on the North side. He was a 66 yr old physician and she a school superintendent. The son survived. One guy asked if Daley outlawed guns....Yes, Little Richie has but that only applies to those who abide by the rules.

Hey, if you ever come to Chicago, let me know and we'll go rock the town. But, you gotta bring your 396. Lots of great listening here 24-7-365.
