I had an idea in my sleep last night. What do you guys think about a Uniden Base Docking Station? It could have an internal speaker, AC power supply, possibly a 12v Gel-Cel with charge maintainer, etc. A BCD996T, or BCT15 could slide in the front.

Here is just a rough sketch of the idea:

That is a cool idea, better get a patent on it first. I like that, I am
looking a holder to put my 396 in my car, I have seen cell phone holders to where I could mount it on my console that look cool.
But I wish someone could come up with a design like a converta
comm holder that would keep it charged up while in the car. And
you could remove it from the holder when you get out of the car.
Maybe you can conger up an idea like that. Anyway that is sweet.

red8,

I have wanted something like that for years. I would love to have a holder for a portable that would have a; power, antenna, USB, and speaker out the back. I would buy two, one for the car and one for my house. I think it would sell, but I also bet that Uniden would sell less scanners, you would not necessarily need a mobile for the car and an hand held.

I saw something similar done for a BC780. If I remember right he used a camera bag to put it all in.

Scannermaster and Universal Radio used to sell the case made by BEE for the BC780XLT. It also worked well for the BC785D and BC796D.

I contacted BEE about possibly selling them for the BCD996T, but they do not sell individually. If someone wanted to sell them they will quote a startup and line charge, but it wont be cheap. It would be a minimum order of 300.

A custom built rack mount is available for the 780 from Scanner Master. If enough interest was made, I'm sure ScannerMaster would sell them.

The "convertacom" idea is great. Someone could just drop their scanner into it and power, loud audio, and storage are all covered.

What would really be sweet would be having a handheld, putting it in the "convertacom" type unit, and then having the remote head run to the dash.
