uniden bc-780XLT programming

Just received an Uniden 780. Having problems programing.
Example:; 260.475. this the frequency I want. Changed step to 5khz I get 260.500 khz. No matter what step I use I still get 260.500.
Want to change the mode..I keep getting not registered.
Any help would save my sanity. Rowland

Menu + channel data + channel # that you want the freq. in , then scroll down to steps. Enter + scroll to 12.5khz.
