XP Pro, I use a 9 pin serial. I couldn't find a USB. I've tried setting the scanner at both 9600 & 19200 bps transfer rate.
In E scanner I paste the frequencies I intend to use from the upper D-base to the lower then I try to load them to the radio and it just hangs. The program itself just freezes as well as the scanner not the computer.
Hmmm...
Have you tried any other programs with any success? Odd that the scanner would freeze - I'd do a full reset on it and see if that helps (man+2+9 while turning the scanner on).
It's rare but I've heard of some scanners shipping with bad PC ports on them. You might be the unlucky recipient of just such a scanner.
Try a couple of free demo programs and see if they work.
Try:
http://www.butel.nl/bc785/arc250basic.zip If that won't work either, then there's something wrong with either your scanner or your com port set up.
If it does work then you may need to contact Uniden support and see what they have to say about why the demo works and e-scanner doesn't. I personally can't stand e-scanner or arc, but some people like one or both of them.

P.S. Not trying to start a flame war people... I know there's some real ARC fans out there who just got all pissy over that last remark. What can I say though, I write my own software for these things - everything else just seems hokey and/or lame to me. I guess I'm biased. Plus I like being able to add new features to my programs whenever I want. Can't do that with e-scanner or ARC!
