Hey all, newbie here, sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread..
So, I just received my Uniden BC355N scanner, and it looks amazing, but I've ran into some issues. I used the Uniden support video on programming the scanner for a custom frequency, and I got that down pat without an issue. But, as I go into the private scan mode, all I hear for (in this case, LaGuardia tower on 118.700) is fuzziness, even though on LiveATC.com, there are pilots/ATC's having full conversations. I'm lost on what to do here. I really don't want to have to return this either.. Any tips are very appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin

Where are you in relation to the airport tower? ATC ground antennas are on the ground (not on tall towers like radio/tv stations and public safety). This is because ATC projects the signal upwards to the sky and does not have any need to be received on the ground. I am less than 100 yards from the edge of DFW airport (at the office) and receiving the tower comms is iffy. The aircraft side can usually be heard from many miles away (they are in the sky projecting downward).

Off-unit antenna up as high (as in on the roof) as you can get it is your best bet.

Hey @upman , sorry for the late response. I live about 25 miles (roughly) from JFK but roughly 20 from LaGuardia, which could be my issue, and surprisingly enough, my FD/EMS works without an issue. Thanks for your help with this. It all makes sense as to why it wouldn't work.
Regards,
Kevin
