I like my Icom R-5 pretty well for it's size and capability, but it's getting some age and the antenna connector is hard to keep tight and has an internal connection issue. My use is primarily VHF, both air and FM bands. Are the analog Bearcats the most logical replacement, or something better to consider in similar price range?

For general aviation air band, I've purchased an SC30C and I am very happy with it. If you want military air freqs as well, I've got a BC125AT that is also a great performer. As I've said in other posts, if you can find a deal on a refurbished unit on Amazon, you can't go wrong. I bought the refurbished 125 for $83. The new SR30C was around $120. It's hard to go wrong with Uniden. Good luck.
