Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to have the BC780XLT tape out have its own volume instead of being controlled by the volume knob like the Uniden BCT15. Right now when I change the volume on the main speaker it also changes the tape out the volume which is not what I was wanting. I wanted the tape-out audio level to be the same even when I change the main speaker volume. I stream the tape-out audio to Zello for me to listen and when I am not using Zello on the go I listen to the unit itself and sometimes I need to change the volume but I don't want to change the stream audio level.

Just wondering if there is a way.

It's a signal taken from the speaker and reduced in level by some resistors. You can remove R12 and lift the C77 from the speaker out and instead connect to the hot side of the VR781 volume control, where R397 are connected. I haven't seen any good schematics, just this blurry low resolution one and no PCB layout.

The volume control should not affect the tape out level, tape out should be fixed and never change.

Not according to what the manual says under Connecting the Tape Recorder... "The VOLUME control affects the Audio output. Do not set the volume on minimum" https://www.uniden.info/download/ompdf/BC780XLTom.pdf I think Uniden started to not have the REC/Tape out jack not be controlled by the volume knob starting with the Uniden BCD996T or BCD796D.

Would that be hard to do?
It seems like they have put those components between the speaker and tape jacks and are covered by the chassis metal frame. It would take to unscrew the pcb board and desolder a lot of things. It's pretty much impossible to do. It would be much easier to solder a capacitor, perhaps 1uF with + to the scanner, to the volume control, pin 3 on its pcb connector, and solder that to a cable that have a suitable 3.5mm connector at the end.
