This week I tried to upgrade the firmware on my Uniden BCD536 scanner. Using the Sental software and two different lap top computers using Windows 10 I get a message unable to connect to Unidens server any ideas what the problem is. Thanks in advance.

Windows Updates are notrious for breaking connections, proved time and time again by Microsoft updates especially windows 10.

My problem was the computer was taken over by the windows update check and download and it was its only priority, i went to services.msc turned off windows updates and hit stop, then went back to sentinel and it had no problem updating the database it wouldnt connect to at all before. Aint microsft great ... NOT.

That happens with upgrades in win7 as well. If you don't follow the advice to restart to finish the upgrade some files and operations are frozen. Just let the updates finish as they are supposed to and it should work ok and don't force an abort in the middle of crucial updates.

I dont update win 7 unless I absolutely have to and only to make some programs work that require the new net versions. MS has proved time and time again its breaks more stuff and causes more headaches than I wish to deal with. My machine stays off the internet except when I am forced to update net framework. My updates are always disabled until I decide I want them to work, not Microsoft. This is why I refuse to use Windows 10 at all. When I want new programs I download them from the place I work put them on a flashdrive and bring them home and install them. I let the IT dept at work deal with all the MS inability for compatibility etc. I shouldnt have to be an IT person to use my laptop because Microsoft cant get things right before they release them for updates. They operate like many businesses do, never enough time to do it right the first time but always time to go back and redo it after its not done right.

I have updated the Sentinel software to the newest version this week updated my laptop running Windows 10 installed the new Sentinel on my old laptop running Windows Vista and neither one will connect to the Uniden server. I have tried at least fifty times with both computers with no luck. Very frustrated and disappointed. Previously I have updated all four of my older Uniden scanners without a problem. Just about ready to box it up and sell it and by another brand.

Who is your ISP?

Some ISPs (notably Hughesnet) block ftp access or otherwise interfere with certain downloads.

An alternative way is to download the firmware .bin file from the Yahoo BCD536HP group.
Yahoo! Groups

Per the instructions in the text file
To apply:

1. Connect the scanner in Mass Storage mode.
2. Unzip the above linked file and copy the appropriate version to the scanner's \BCDx36HP\firmware folder.
3. Disconnect the scanner from the PC.

Sattilite internet has major latency issues especially on uploads, it is the worst internet service anyone can have, however for some its the only option. I use my phones hotspot with my asus router for internet but only when i need to use the internet the rest of the time my whole network is switches and computers connected to the router along with several tb storage drives also connected to the router all my computers and rigs and radios are connected to the router that need internet every once and a while for firmware updates. My tp link connects to the internet jack on the router and when i turn on my phone hotspot the tp link sends it to the router and the router sends it on the hard wired intranet and both wireless access points by the router at 2.4 and 5 gbs.
