It appears the best just got better. I finally had a chance to upload the new firmware update tonight. After experimenting with the radio for the last couple of hours on several Denver Metro area and State systems, all I can say is WOOOOOWWWWW! For all of the Uniden bashers out there (you know who you are) I have two words - UNIDEN RULES! My Pro-96, long my favorite trunking workhorse and faithful companion, is now but a very faint memory! :D

Yes, the EDACS beeps for the systems I listen to are gone completely, although some listeners in other parts of the country are still experiencing them. The AGC adjustments for digital AND analog systems and the modified volume settings have made listening even more enjoyable for me. The update addressed other issues as well. Take a look at this thread for further info: http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34901

It took them about 9 months after releasing the product to the market to get it working properly. Nothing like paying customers having to constantly reflash their radios.

Try and see if the radio still locks on to the first p25 control channel in a system and rescans the other CC's in that system when you get out of range of the first one it locks on to. (No I am NOT talking about simultaneous multi-site scan) If they truly addressed this issue then one of the biggest flaws has been delt with. If not then people need to keep pressing uniden on fixing this.

FWIW I have both the 296 and 796 in use daily.

Don't be hating on the bashers. If it wasn't for the so-called "Bashers" Uniden would not be correcting the issues this radio has had since day one. It's good that they are listening.

Having a spare radio is nice so don't toss it quite yet. (I'm sure there are a few here that would love take it off your hands)

One big difference is that the 396 and older 296 are current hogs and will take down a charge with 2500 mah batteries in 7 to 8 hours vs the PRO-96 that will run 15 hours with the same batteries.

My experience with the BCD396T

I myself haven't had a audio issue with the 3600 digital system I monitor myself. The only problem I do have is when I'm 10 miles or so away from it and I did a side by side with a pro96 and it had the same issue. One individual on this board claims that his digital system hasn't had firmware upgraded..... I could see with the improper maintenance this system has that would cause his problems. I know for a fact that this digital system I monitor had a tower replaced and the radio technicians are maintaining this system every month on the 15th. I did have that EDACS issue when monitoring both systems but I never monitor two trunked systems at one time so that was no big complaint of mine. This radio sounds just like the real mccoys and I will continue to purchase and support Uniden products.

Continued; in fact many people who monitor this digital trunked system is totally surprised I made any change from the default settings one does with the tweaking of the scanner. They claimed that this digital system was flawless and didn't need to be tweaked. Tha threw me for a loop when they e-mailed me with this information.
