My Uniden BCD396T scanner keeps ID searching but doesn't find any ID's. It was working fine yesterday but then all of a sudden it just keeps ID searching. I noticed it doesn't seem to be picking up a signal because there is no signal strength meter showing in the top right corner of the screen. Can anyone help?

Sounds like the system you were monitoring has made a change. But, no way to know for sure from what you've told us. Please link to the database entry on this site that shows the system you were monitoring.

Actually, I was hoping more for a link like Scanner Frequencies: Gainesville / Alachua County Trunking System, Gainesville, Florida but your info let me find it.

So, now confirm that the four control channel frequencies are programmed into your scanner (they are the ones in red and blue on that page). You can do that by pressing HOLD while on that system and scrolling through the frequencies (at the end of the frequencies scrolling up you'll start to see the talk group channels programmed into your scanner...scrolling down you'll start to see the previous system information).

If you do not hear the "buzzsaw" noise of the data channel on any of those frequencies, then it is possible that they've made a change to the system that is not yet reflected in the database.

It is also possible somethng has gone awry with your scanner. Can you receive other things, like Weather (HOLD, F+2, "Weather Scan")?

Well, that would indicate a probable system change. You might ask over in the Florida forum since this seems to be most likely a location issue, not a scanner issue...

I'm having the same problem that whooey had though after reading all the replies for whooey's problem I still can't get mine to work again.

whooey's post: I am scanning the Alachua County Smartzone system after Rebanding. I have all my other digital scanners up and running, but my 396T's arent scanning right.

I have upgraded to 3.02.02 and have put all the new reband control channel's in the 396T as well.

When I try to scan the Alachua County system, the display shows frequency 853.7875. Therefore the scanner does not pick up on any coms whatsoever. That is NOT one of my control channel's, nor do I have 853.7875 programmed in the 396T as a CC. It seems hung on that freq for some reason...

Now here is the weird part. When I do a CC custom search in the 853 range it picks up the system fine, with the P25 audio and all.

I would appreciate if someone could maybe give me a tip on how to fix this minor problem.

Thanks!

Did you program the new system as an 800 Custom and include the custom band plan entries?

See the release notes for the firmware update.

I programmed it as a MOT 800Mhz. I'm not sure if I understand how to enter the custom band info. I went to the firmware instructions as shown below. Went to Edit System Option but I don't have a "Edit Band Plan" option to choose.

Motorola 800 Custom Band Plan (Rebanding)
This update adds the ability to create a Motorola 800 MHz system using a custom band plan. When you create a system that has been rebanded to use the frequencies newly added for use by the FCC, you have the option now of selecting 800MHz Custom as the Motorola system type.

Once you create the system, you can set the custom band plan as follows:

Edit System Option --> Edit Band Plan
Select the band plan entry to edit.
Set each of the following entries for the band plan:
Set Base Freq (Lower and Upper)
Set Offset
Set Spacing
For standard rebanded systems, you need to set Band Plan 1 and Band Plan 2 as: Band Plan
Base Freq (Lower)
Base Freq (Upper)
Offset
Polarity
Spacing

1
851.025MHz
854.000MHz
440
+
25 kHz

2
851.0125MHz
868.9875MHz
0
+
25 kHz

You have to program the system as an 800 MHz Custom (not Standard) in order to set the band plan.
