I use a standard mic holder. Use double-back automotive take (very strong) if you want to avoid holes. Don't 'cheap out' on the tape, and let it cure before using it. There is a pic in either the BCD396T or BCD396XT yahoo group pictures section.
I have used 3m Dual Lock material. Very strong, have radios, scanners, radar units, all attached with 3m Dual Lock. Its a plastic like velcro link material. Its similar to Velcro in function but it has plastic loops instead of the fuzzy fabric. It has held up in cold weather thoiugh a few times when its really hot, it falls down. I just pickup and press again and it holds. Depending on your dash curve, attaching below the belt clip on the back of the scanner should work.

Maybe a combination of our replies would work best - the mic hanger held with 3M Dual Lok (or however they spell it). Adding it to the scanner itself might snag stuff and clog the loops.

There are windshield suction mounts, vent mounts, cup holder mounts, and goose neck mounts which bolt to your existing seat floor mounts, which all mount without any drilling. I got lucky, I have an upper dash level cup holder that my 396XT, in the leather case, fits right into.
This was after I added screws just to make it more secure, but I had tape on it previously (cheap tape). I added the screws for the 436 since it's a longer unit that may have more stress due to the angle it's held at.
When a scanner is installed with the stock antenna, it extends just above the top of the dash. If I were reinstalling today, I might move it a bit to the left to increase visibility. It's OK where it is, but is slightly obscured by the steering wheel. You can see the BNC connector and feedline hanging over the steering wheel.
OK. The image isn't showing up. I tried copying it and RR makes it about 13,000 characters text. Inserting isn't working either.
