I work in the Hudson Valley area of NY and normally monitor local activity with my HP2 in the office using a roof mounted antenna, well last night I forgot my HP2 at home but had my BCD436 in my bag so I used that. What I noticed is its rather deaf on the NYCOMCO EDACS system compared to my HP2. I spent a good portion of the night going through various settings and had very little luck. The local PD's on that system alone are enough to keep a scanner chirping all night with very little time between RX's. So I am wondering is there a know issue with EDACS systems in general with that radio? Any suggestions on how I can improve RX? I am long time lurker in the Uniden forums and been a Uniden user for many years.

Have you updated your scanner in a while? check your service types, squelch, and scan selection. generally the BCD436hp will preform better than the HP2 on those types of systems.

Yes my radio is updated weekly and the settings are the same. Is it a fact that the HP2 is inferior with EDACS reception? Are there any specific settings that may default on the HP2 that I need to activate on my 436? From what I can tell both favorite lists are identical in sentinal. My observation is the 436 maybe scanning the entire EDACS system which has like 7 or 8 sites where my HP2 does not do this. I keep my range the same on both radios usually as well to localize what I receive better.

I've looked into the systems in your area and all I can find for NYCOMCO is this system: https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=7468
I may be missing an EDACS version of it, but this system is DMR which the Homepatrol 2 is not capable of receiving. If there is an EDACS version, if it is digital and not analog, you would need ProVoice to decode, which again he Homepatrol 2 cannot do.

I use my 436 to monitor the NYCOMCO EDACS weekly, and it has no problems. The key is to only enable the site or sites that you’re close enough to hear. For instance, I am usually only on the thruway and go as far as Newburgh. I have the other sites avoided. This works for me.

There is an EDACS system as well as MOTOTRBO. I monitor the EDACS usually which is conventional but I also have my 436 DMR unlocked. I think Markscan gave me the answer I needed, thanks for the help
