I have had many scanners but I have had some money issues lately. Had to sell most of my scanners to put food on the table. What does everyone think of the BCT8. I know it is not like the big boys. I have never had a bearcat does this low end scanner pick up the I-Call. Thank again for all your help.

Depends on what you want to listen to, and what environment you are in. I have one in my work truck, and overall... I like it. But, it does lack PL tones and alpha tags which is a real bummer. I've seen that some people have had some bizarre audio problems with their units, but I haven't experienced that on mine. I listen to a mix of conventional frequencies, a VHF Motorola trunked system, an 800 mhz Type 1 Mot system and an EDACS system. It is fairly succeptable to intermod so living in a dense RF area might make it a bad choice (especially with the lack of PL tones). But it gets the job done otherwise.

If you travel and use the "BearTracker" Function then it is great (in most states). As far as a desktop scanner or mobile in metro areas it's innards are not all that great. The double conversion easily picks up alot of interference and intermod.

Because it lacks Alphanumerics you will have to have a good (brain) memory.

I have one in my car. It has saved me from numerous tickets. I have it setup to listen the local PD. I use the wire antenna that comes with it for mobile use. When I connect it up to my highend mobile antenna listening becomes less fun.

Great for the money but you get what you pay for
