I was just wondering if any of you's have this scanner in Michigan. I am from Muskegon County near Newaygo County and need a scanner with digital capabilities. I just bought one the other day but have not received it yet. It is coming with the APCO-25 digital card. Within the past couple years Newaygo County has swithed to digital 800mhz radios. It kinda stinks cause I cannot pick them up anymore with the scanner I have. I just wondered if anyone has had good luck with this radio in MI.

Hopefully you didn't buy this scanner to listen to the State of Michigan Public Safety Communications (M.P.S.C.S.) System. This is a 9600 baud system and the 785D won't track it.

Do you know if Newaygo County runs on this 9600 Baud rate. I am new to this scanning stuff. I made a mistake just recently and bought a bc 898t and found out that it does not track digital, I was thinking all 800mhz was just that 800mhz. And that I did not need to have a 'digital scanner.

What does baud rate mean and how do you find out what baud rates are in your area?

You need to get the 796D, 296D or the Pro96 for the Michigan system.

I don't know about your county. I just checked the database here and nothing 800 mhz is listed. Perhaps they are moving to the state system??
I'd cancel or return the 785 and go for the 796.

All of the MPSCS runs on 9600 baud. You will need to get a scanner that can track that. As for price ranges. The Radio Shack Pro-96 retails for $499.99 and does not need the $250 apco-25 card.

Yes Newaygo county is on the state 9600 Baud system (MPSCS). As mentioned you'll need a Pro-96 (HH), BC-296D (HH), or a BC 796D (Base). There is also a Pro2096 base/mobile that's supposed to come out after the first of the year.

I'll suggest you look this thread. It compairs the models.

Personally I have the Pro-96, and I like it a lot. However I have no experience with the 296 or 796, so I can't compair.

I checked with Radio Shack today and they told me that they dropped the price of the Pro-96 at all their stores...it now retails for $399.00.
