So I received 2 bricks in the mail today called 996p2's. The programming cord sent with them won't work, my computer says the driver needs to be updated for the cord. Anyone?

Uniden will likely have the driver on the website shortly.

As for the manual, use the 996XT manual for now.

The two are identical except for the fact the P2 does Phase II (no programming difference) and the fact the P2 has a USB connector on the front. Well, and it says BCD996P2 rather than BCD996XT.

The XT manual will tell you anything other than those items you need to know.

New to the forum:

I’ve been listening to scanners all my life for police and fire related information with the use of the old RadioShack scanners. I just purchased a new scanner as I’ve been listening to my old one for the past 20 years, so I’m excited for the bearcat BCD 996 P2 to be delivered.
Advance specialties, I purchased two of them from you this week and thank you for your prompt processing of my orders. I found this website to be very informative and I appreciate all the information the members have inputted as well as the scanner frequencies that I will need. I’ll give you an update on this new model as I’m very excited to see how it works and what more information I can observe in my local community.

My new BCD996P2 is en route. Arrival date is Wednesday. I am bummed though after reading that my RH-96 is not compatible due to the change in front port (proprietary to mini-USB). Several sites advertised it as RH-96 compatible. Now I can't use it in the Prius. I have my current BCD996XT installed under the seat with the RH-96 attached to it's mounting bracket as a base on a tether cable resting in the lower console along with a small speaker. I can pick up the RH-96 at will and manipulate it, place it back in the lower console when not using. I installed a master power switch in one of the unused dash plugs that powers both on and off. I have an NMO mount drilled center roof. After experimenting with several NMO mount antennas, I am using an uncut Stico flexible whip NMO that is about 19" long. It all works well. Now my new P2 will just have to be a base station in the house until UpMan comes up with an adapter for my RH-96....

Bricks? First off, you can always manually program it (no, not as easy but still possible). Secondly, drivers have been posted on the Uniden wiki page. (I'm assuming you have those by now.)

Curious as what sites advertize it compatible with the RH-96?

I was wondering the same so I did a search and did see that on ScannerMaster.com they list it in the features section...but it's obvious (to me) it was likely copy/paste from the 996XT page and they forgot to remove it.

I'm not sure if others have done the same. If so, that is poor practice by them...
