Yeah thats a video I took. But cant program with with the computer even with the recommended driver's everyone has..

When it's plugged in do you see the 996 under COM ports? If so what driver?
If you do not see the 996 - there is another issue.

If you do - what's the driver?

I'd force it to load the new one.

[Q UOTE=CJ7jeeperOIIIO;2356833]In regard to programming the 996P2, does it come with a computer program to enter the frequencies or is this something I will need to purchase?[/QUOTE]

as of right now you would have to purchase a program because free scan does not support it. and at the moment I'm having problems finding proper drivers actually To program it.

Are you saying at this time there are no programs available then for this new scanner to assist in programming it off the computer? I downloaded the endless amount of frequencies from this site and I think it will be next year by the time I get them all entered if I do it by hand.

No more difficult than a 996xt to program manually. It's not as bad as people make it sound. The only pain part is turning the dial and picking out letters of the alphabet. Not rocket science.

No! I am saying that I cannot find drivers for the serial cable/ usb programming cable. A few people have reported issues installing the drivers on Windows 7 64-bit systems. We have verified that the published drivers do work. If you have a problem with the installation, the below steps have resolved the issue in at least one verified case. Note that these same steps might also work to resolve issues with other versions of Windows. We suspect that the problem is caused by an unsupported or outdated driver in the system.
Plug in the cable, then open up device manager, right-click on the device that has the error and click "Uninstall". Once that finishes, unplug the cable.
Go to Uninstall Programs and uninstall "PL-2303 USB-to-Serial" if it exists. You might want to sort by publisher and see if there are any old Prolific drivers on the system...if so, uninstall them, too. Hopefully this will get you back to a clean state vis-a-vis the cable and its drivers.
Follow the link provided above to go to Prolific's site and download the latest driver (takes about 20 seconds) and unzip it to a directory.
The assumption is that you are administrator on your PC, but to be sure right click on the installer file and "Run as Administrator." The install takes less than 20 seconds.
Plug in the cable. It should be recognized and install as a COM port (this takes about 30 seconds the first time you plug the cable into a port).

With it plugged in, what do you see in device Manager under ports (com - lpt) ??

And please quit saying there are no drivers - there is one place and one only - Uniden, you have been pointed there several times.

This is like watching a dog chase his tail. The drivers are on the Uniden website at the URL posted earlier in this thread. Those should work unless your PC is trying to use a different set of drivers for some reason.
