I have a Uniden BearTracker 855 coming in tomorrow. I live in York Region. Anyone have one that lives in the area? Any thoughts of how good the unit is?
Lots of people I talked to said it's a great unit. What type of programing does it use?

I think it's a good price for a basic CB and scanner in one. However it doesn't excel at either. If I recall it only gets dispatch for police fire ems etc. You can't program it to receive what you want or tac channels etc. It also doesn't display what your receiving very well or detailed. But if you want a CB basic digital in one unit and don't care about specifics or programming following certain things it can do that. Probably focused to long haul truckers who move around and it will just scan to local highway stuff etc

From a quick skim through the owners manual it looks like it uses the database from here and just scans by GPS+Service Type. So you hit the Police button, you will hear that's in the DB for that GPS area. It also says it doesn't do proprietary digital formats, but doesn't expand on that. I'd hazard a guess it'll be P25 only... no DMR/NXDN etc.

It was designed for the post CB craze and before trunking became a big provider. The idea was for truckers to be able to scan for smokies without really knowing what they were doing.
