Uniden Beartracker 885 hybrid

I lost the memory card for my Uniden 885 Beartracker scanner/CB hybrid. I’m planing on buying a new card. My question…is there a website I have to use to format a new memory card to make it compatible with the unit? If so what is that site or can I use the BT 885 update manager from the start on a new memory card?

I followed the instructions and all I get is “SD Error” I formatted the SD card tried again and got the same thing! 😡 has this happened to anyone else?

Did you replace the SD Card with a new one?

This is the formatter Uniden recommends for all of their scanners. I suspect your radio uses the same one. SD Memory Card Formatter for Windows Download - SD Association I am able to use the BT885 updater to load a SD card after formatting it with that app.

What size SD card did you use? NOTHING BIGGER THAN 32GB and FORMAT THE DRIVE FAT32.

The SD card is 256GB. How could the memory be too big? I would understand if it was too small. I don’t check if it was FAT32. I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks.

Because all Uniden Scanners use FAT32 which will not work above 32GB.
The Default SD CARDS are 4GB or 8GB from the factory.

The reason larger memory cards do not work is that the memory address is too long. IE if the scanner can only handle memory addresses 4 characters long (0000-FFFF) then if you install a card with memory addresses 6 characters long (000000-FFFFFF) then the scanner cannot process the extra 2 characters. The scanner will then ignore or error out if the card is used.
