Was looking into getting the Uniden Beartracker 885. Just wanted to get a feel for what everyone else thinks.

The 885 is very limited as far as a scanner. You will only be able to receive frequencies and talkgroups with the service types of Fire Dispatch, EMS Dispatch, Law Dispatch, and Public Works. No Tac! It may be possible to edit the files you download by changing the service types of everything from Tac to Dispatch, but I don't have a 885 to try to see if it works. I found that you can read and edit the files in the database using ARC536 software to change the service types.. I don't know if there have been any firmware updates to allow the scanner to scan tac frequencies and talkgroups.

I have one and it works great. It also receives tac channels contrary to what was posted above. I can't tell you how it works around simulcast though.

I used one for a good while in an 18 wheeler. Worked fairly well. Very basic scanning. It cannot handle Simulcast systems at all. That was the main reason I replaced it with an SDS100 and used a Cobra 29 for cb when I needed it.
For its target users, truckers and people that travel a lot, it works fine. The display is no very readable in bright light. But, installed in a dark part of a vehicle, it is usable.
