Thinking on buying a new Uniden BearTracker Scanner (BCT15X) r they good for the P25,phase 2

Most P25 Phase 2 systems are simulcast, which means there are antennas on a number of towers that transmit the same information on the same frequency at the same time. Unless you "win the simulcast lottery" and are close enough to one tower such that its signal drowns out all the others, you will have little to no luck using a scanner that was not designed to correctly handle simulcast. Most of the models on the Scanner Master list (BCD325P2/BCD996P2, BCD436HP/BCD536HP , HomePatrol 2, and TRX-1/TRX-2) have the hardware and firmware to decode P25 Phase 2 but their recievers were not designed to handle simulcast.

The only sure-fire options (other than a subscriber radio) available for P25 Phase 2 simulcast systems at this time are the Uniden SDS100/SDS200 and the Unification G4 and G5 pagers.

What system(s) are you interested in listening to? The other thing you'll want to do before spending several hundred dollars is to verify that the traffic you want to listen to is not encrypted.

If this is your system, you'll need a Phase 1 scanner at least.

A lot of the Police frequencies look like they're Encrypted (E in the "Mode" Column) You won't be able to monitor those.

I recommend a Uniden 996XT for a base scanner or if you want to future-proof, a 996P2.

Here is a listing of scanners:

Good luck!

I recommend a BCD996P2 "NEW" or any other Digital Scanner that is "Still In Production". and buy it from Scanner Master or grab a return, refurb, scratch/dent from Amazon. Don't buy a BCD996XT that is isn't in production anymore and you can only get on eBay.
I just bought a BCD996P2 on Amazon yesterday for $247.00

Unification G5 pagers. I am on a local VFD that has went to DMR trunking and using Link Cap +. I saw on here from somebody that you can pick this up on DMR updated G 5 pager. You just use a wildcard in programing. I did this on my Whistler scanner and it receives it well. Will this work the same on the G5.
I sorry I forgot to put the VHF freq. that we use for this. 154.430 and 154.175

My understanding @fire701 is that Unification pagers are not able to receive all frequencies of P25. But if you only need the examples you mentioned, then their G5 will work great for you.
