My 250-D was stolen and I'm looking for an economical replacement. My usage is for an 800 motorola Type-2 system and for MilAir/airshow use. The "close-call" and Fire tone-out feature are also nice (I'm a Firefighter). Can anyone comment on the MilAir performance of this model?
It is supposed to have an AM antenna also (or one for enhanced performance on AM).

Thanks Y'all,

I can't speak for the BR-330T but the 396T (which is the same size) does well for all those bands. It might not fit your economical criteria but it does do digital trunking and thats the way things are headed. As for the Milair band, it's perfromance is quite good. I have had issues with the close call feature on all bands but overall the scanner is a very good package. I would guess that the 330T would do similar in those bands. Plus, the scanner is small enough that when theres a flyover at the local stadium it's small enough to get in undetected and hear the pilots air to air. Uniden don't make no junk.

I use my BR330T for mil and civil air and it's better than my 250D and my 785D in the truck. I use it daily on the road and I'm very impressed.

Civilian Air - 108-137 MHz
Military Air - 225-400 MHz
(380 to 400 MHz is being phazed out to be used for military land mobile.
There are still some freqs active in this range that are of aviation nature)

Thank you. I have no idea if I'll hear anything on military air in my area of PA (northeast) but I'll look.

Thanks for the advice

I appreciate it Kingpin. I have decided to go with the 330T.
The south park avatar is awesome!
I am a paid-on-call firefighter in Harris County, Ga. It is just north of Columbus, Ga. I sometimes get down there to Pensacola for the Blue Angels homecoming shows in November. Tyndall is an annual event for this family. We hope to see an F/A-22 demo there this year.
Thanks again...

I've had my 330T less than a week and I love it so far. You won't be dissapointed.

Glad you like the avitar Smoke. I made the character on an online South Park character creator and I photoshopped my cairns helmet on him.

You'd be suprised what you'll hear on milair. Even though there isn't a base near you, you'll still hear air refulings, enroute freqs, air to air chit chat. When you get it, do a search and I'm sure you'll be suprised! Glad you're getting it. You won't be dissapointed!

Yeah, I could hear alot of inbound traffic for both the depot facilities at Robins AFB and Maxwell. Air refueling out of Robins also. Sometimes the units from Danelly Field in Montgomery and NAS Atlanta can be heard working Benning MOA here at Ft. Benning (F-16's and F/A-18's). I have found the "Scantenna" from Antenna Warehouse to be the best darn antenna anywhere.

Now I'm off to Nextag for the best pricing on my 330T.

See Y'all...

I like fighter jets too ! Unfortunately, I don't think there is to much action in my neck of the woods to hear any cool comms from fighter pilots. I'm wondering, are you able to see re-fueling taking place (clear day, binoculars) ? What altitude would they be at ?

I have only seen refueling once...

I was working on a friend's satellite dish at their house which is located about 35 miles east of Columbus on Highway 80 (the Fall-Line freeway). That's the primary route from Columbus, Ga to Macon, Ga.
Warner Robins (RAFB) is just south of macon and has a couple of Air refueling Squadrons. Anyway, I was on the roof and heard an ungodly roar from high above. I lookled up to see a KC-10 Extender with four F-15's in Echelon formation on each side. I estimated that they were at about 8000 feet. I think the standard is FL100 (10K feet) for refueling, but these were a little lower.
So anyway, the KC-10 was, of course, already past me when I heard them, but then another F-15 went screaming toward the others at full burner, as if trying to catch-up! This remains one of the coolest spottings that I have witnessed. The surprise effect of seeing them there unexpectedly had something to do with it, I'm sure.
Anyway, the refueling usually takes place at about 10,000 feet or higher, but on a clear, un-hazey day (is that a word???), you could probably see them if you're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I often hear them working from my home north of Columbus, Ga, all the way over to Macon. Generally the transmissions are very brief, except when discussing maintenance or intercept problems.

I'm still kicking myself for not having my Panasonic FZ-10 handy that day.
Damn!

Great storey Smoke !!! The only time I get to see these planes is when the airshow is in town on Labour Day weekend. I always go to the airport to watch them take off and land. I bring my camcorder along and scanner too. Got some good footage, because on approach to the runway they did some maneuvers above airport property instead of just landing. Had an F-16 in my sights for 2-3 minutes, then he landed. Then...aaaahhhh...I realized I had the camcorder on 'pause'. Oh well, I did get some good vids on F-18 and some vintage planes.

330T Vs 396 in Milair

Is your regarding the 396 in milair or for other bands. Does the 330T perform better than the 396T on Milair 225-400 and 138 0- 143 freq sets?
