Since we're approaching the two year mark of @JoeBearcat's "Help me help you" thread, I thought it would be a good time to review all of the firmware that has been released since that thread was started. Seems like the bulk of these releases were to address revised hardware, with very little in the way of bug fixes or enhancements. If I've overlooked any releases or changes, please post them so we can all be better informed. (y)

With regard to the SDS 100 and 200 you have not missed anything. There was some concern that the fix with VHF High digital decode had compromised the 165 MHz area but I have not found any problem with that.

As far as the step changes my understanding is they only refer to search and discovery mode and can't actually be permanently programmed into the radios.

As far as any of the long wish list discussed ad nauseam over 1,000 posts I am very confident that there isn't anything else other than what you have listed with regard to desired expansion of certain options that could potentially be unlocked in the radio. Again I'm only making reference to the SDS-100 and 200. I personally never saw any change with audio on p25, for me it was already good.

We just had the anniversary of Paul Opitz's passing in late December 2019 and I still stand by the fact that I do believe he envisioned that.. waffle maker.

Am I correct in that the SDS radios won't properly decode TIII Motorola trunking?

The latest firmware update shown for the 536 mentions "new radio hardware". Is 17x.xxxx digital decode an issue only affecting radios made after a certain date or is it with all 536 units?

For both the 996P2 and 539HP: Fixed an issue where the new radio hardware could not decode digital communications in the frequency range of 171.225 - 173.9875 MHz

Still not clear to me. Please define "new radio hardware". Newer 536s? If so, after what manufacturing code?

Refer to this thread where the specifics were discussed. If you're still unclear, I would suggest asking there.

Always update to the latest firmware release as the software will detect what hardware the scanner has and adapt to it. What you shouldn't do are to try and dump an old firmware file in the scanner as that will not be aware of the new hardware and the scanner will stop working. Always upgrade, don't downgrade, if that even are possible for you to do.

Good list but I’m still dismayed with the SDS models-only one update (and that was out of necessity due to hardware changes) when we were sold on a lot more updates because of the SDR capabilities. I remember the promise of future updates as part of their advertising campaign. I also realize the list is NOT showing updates/upgrades offered before Joe Bearcat’s “Help me help you” thread. The filters come to mind. A complete list from when the radio was first released would be nice… maybe I just haven’t kept track of everything that was released?

Here are update notes: http://info.uniden.com/UnidenMan4/BCD996P2FirmwareUpdate Use this firmware updater:

Thanks for the input. I see mostly bug fixes, and enhancements of existing features, a fine tuning if you will but nothing new. I’m not deliberately trying to criticize over this, instead look at it from a critical standpoint. If those two words are related, meaning being critical apparently is to criticize, I apologize. It’s not my intention to “flame” the SDS series. Just the opposite. I have two SDS200’s and one SDS100 and love them.

I’d like to hear from others who might have had ideas about what Uniden may have meant when they advertised there were some exciting things to come because the SDS series is a software defined radio.

That isn't the purpose of this thread. If you want to moan and groan about specific issues with a particular scanner, start your own thread. Or better yet, go find some of the countless posts made over the past few years complaining about unfulfilled potential and broken promises with the SDS series.

It’s sure closer to the purpose of the thread than your reply. It’s a forum. You need to look up the meaning of forum. And knock off the knucklehead attitude.
