Hello,
I will be traveling to Anaheim for a week and am wondering if anyone has used the Uniden HP1 there.
(Hotel bound for a week, night listening)

I'm generally just looking for experiences with the stock antenna listening to LE only. I'm aware OC is ENC but how's the performance for getting LASO, Riverside co TRS, ICIS etc.

Best,
Dave

Without going into detail (because someone else surely will), you should do reasonably well enough with the services you mentioned for it to be well worth bringing, even with the stock antenna. If you can get a second-floor or higher room on the north, west or northwest side of the building, it will help a lot. You can listen to LAPD, LASO, LACoFD, LAFD, CHP, and of course don't forget to include Orange County fire freqs, such as Metronet North.

If you have time to order anything before your trip, you might think about something like this
Duckie Suction Mount with BNC and a longer, all-band duckie form the same source.

More opinions will follow. I guarantee it.

Ok,
Thank you for the info. I found my hotel has accessible balconies so the mag mount is coming along with a couple of antennas. 5th or 6th story room. Sounds like I'll be in good shape.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; SPH-M900 Build/ECLAIR) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

Well, if you're staying in Anaheim, why wouldn't you listen to Disneyland operations? Yes, I know you said you primarily want to listen to law enforcement, but you're not going to get much of that in the OC, and Disneyland ops can be fascinating listening at times. You can find the frequencies in the RR database under Orange County (CA) trunked systems. A few days ago, I also heard in the 217 MHz range (conventional) what sounded like the Disneyland parking lot trams.

I will have a listen to them but have listened to their FL/CA parks for years. Just isn't too interesting at this point. I remember monitoring the 900 system when it was fully loaded many years ago.

I know most of OC is P25E therefore I was wondering how much surrounding activity would be in range.

I'm also putting together a fed list too. I monitor a lot of fed activity here in the Philly area. A lot of P25E but plenty of clear also.

If you want INTERESTING, non-stop PD transmissions, I think you will be fairly impressed with Los Angeles PD. LA Sheriffs might be a little frustrating, as the dispatchers employ a "busy signal" when they are listening to mobile units on a separate freq, so your scan will come to a halt waiting for the "beep...beep...beep..."

On the 4th or 5th floor, you will be stylin'.

Ok, I dug up a 6dB 460mhz nmo and a bracket I can mount to the railing and a 20' piece of LMR240...So much for keeping it simple.

Disneyland went to NEXTEL a few years back. The trunked system is used as a back up. You will also be able to pick up the ICIS system to which has Verdugo Fiire.

Okay, I missed something somewhere. The RR database still has Disneyland listed as a Motorola Type II Smartnet and I still hear stuff occassionally when I do listen in.

So what's the difference between NEXTEL and Motorola and why can't my pathetic PRO-97 pick up NEXTEL?
